A FEW MARKET HIGHLIGHTS OF NOTE

Each market, we present unique concepts and ideas, industry trends, and educational opportunities that celebrate the creative energy that abounds at this market.

AMAZED

Suites at Market Square, 1st (top) Floor
This October, as our ghosts become restless, and winter chills lurk, Market Square & Suites presents the third Amazed installation, “It’s Only Real when it’s Dark”, a 4000 square foot eye-popping, idea-shocking installation exploring the darker side of life, humor, pop culture and surrealism. While the individual vignettes are a tight kept secret, word has it that designer Mike Farrell has acquired 30 thousand Light Brite pegs and used butcher aprons. If you come to Market looking for that “one great idea” then you can’t miss what many industry leaders are calling “the one thing you can’t miss at Market”.

Fabrique
Suites at Market Square, 1st (top) Floor

Fabrique is a new interactive exhibit that showcases the hottest new fabric introductions. This experiential display allows you to create your own combination of fabrics as you mix and match outfits on life-size magnetic “paper dolls.”

Groovystuff Design Competition
Suites at Market Square, Ground Floor, 1000 Aisle
Groovystuff and sustainable design students from Appalachian State University are teaming up to create a “modern rustic” line for the Dick Idol licensing group. Using raw and reclaimed materials & hardware, each student will develop and present their inspirations, renderings and CAD drawings to Groovystuff and a panel of judges, and each students’ work will be displayed for voting during the High Point Market. The winning entry will be put into production and available at the April 2011 Market in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Dick Idol brand.

Project UDesign
Century Showroom, 5th Floor in Market Square
Mix and mingle with three Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) finalists during an industry wide Tweetup in Century’s Historic Market Square 5th floor showroom on Monday, Oct. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. as tension builds for the conclusion of Project UDesign, sponsored by Cargill’s BiOH polyols.

One talented SCAD student will be named the winner on Wednesday, Oct. 20, based on consumer and industry votes. It’s the first competition to “crowd source” the next generation wing chair that consumers will be able to buy. Voting takes place online through Oct. 19 at http://facebook.com/BiOHFans and in Century’s showroom, from Oct. 16 through Oct. 19. Cast YOUR VOTE to determine which sustainable chair upholstered in Ultrasuede® EcoDesign™ makes it to the production line.
